Checking in…

Hey y’all… I’ve had more than a couple of people ask why I’m not writing every day like I did in October. I’m okay. Not sick! Not feeling great, but not sick either. The writing every day thing in October was kind of an experiment, and I’m glad that y’all liked hearing from me. ^_^ Makes a heart feel good. Anyone reading my blog here on WordPress would think that no one actually reads this blog because there’s barely any comments or likes. But I share my blog elsewhere on other social media, and that is were most of my audience lies. 🙂 Not that I have a huge following, mind you, but the few people who do follow me… well they are few but, I guess y’all notice when I don’t blog. I am missed, dear reader. Heh.

Picture of cat lying on a computer. Words on computer screen read, "I love my computer, it's where all of my friends live."

Anyway, I’ve been working on the “writing prompt” website that I mentioned before. The very one that was the core of my October experiment. Learning code is not easy, dear reader, and coming up with prompts… that ain’t easy either. Especially making prompts gender-neutral and as politically correct as possible while not going overboard with it. Especially coming up with prompts for fiction I mean writing prompts are supposed to be controversial — the story is in the conflict after all, but there is a line that I’m trying not to cross and it’s a very thin line. So, like, I’ll start either coding the website itself — or trying to come up with, format, and put the prompts in the coded list — sometime in the morning, and the next thing I know, it’s afternoon and my brain is fried. I know that friends of mine who are coders are probably laughing at me because what I’m trying to do is probably way easy, but I’m trying to teach myself by looking up, “how to X” on Google and throwing code at my site and seeing what works. Basically trying to run before I learn how to walk. But hey, it’s something to do beside watch videos and cycle through the same three sites all day. I mean, I tried to learn online with stuff like codecademy, and even have a huge book on how to build a website — it’s a bit dated, but I’ve got it — but I kept falling asleep trying to learn it all from the ground up. I might try again someday, but for right now, since I’m not trying to make a living at it, I think this is the best way.

So, that’s what I’ve been doing the past few weeks or so. I’m probably about halfway through with getting the website put together. I mean, I have about 1000 prompts (roughly 350 for each kind of prompt), but for some reason, I just think that’s not enough. It’s not enough! I need more prompts!

Also, coding isn’t easy. >_< I mean, if it were easy, everyone would do it. Ha! But I’m learning, dear reader. I’m learning.

And that’s the long and short of it. Of course it would go faster if I wasn’t so tired. But I’m trying not to complain about that as much. I’ll keep y’all up to date whenever I get this thing done, and I’ll post a link to the website whenever I have it up. I won’t be able to put it here on WordPress, but Doug has a web space that I’ll be able to use. I don’t expect my prompt site to be majorly popular; it’s just something I’m doing to pass the time. And pass the time it does. It’s not the only thing I’m doing every day — still have the knitting/crocheting stuff — and I do watch videos here and there. I don’t want to get burned out on this and give up on it. So yeah. Just thought I’d catch up with y’all and let you know that I’m still alive and kicking. Just lost in the whole coding thing. It keeps my sleepy mind occupied. Except today. Today I’m gonna play video games. Because that’s what I wanna do. 🙂 Later gator.

  1. I noticed when you stopped blogging ‘before’ and I was pleased as punch when you came back again! I watch each day to see if you have something written (I have my reader set to share your blog with me when you post, which, like all things WordPress, only works some of the time O_o ) AND I know your health sometimes doesn’t permit sitting at a computer and tippy tappin’ your fingers sore. I’ll watch for that website when it’s launched and you know I’ll share it around (if that’s something you’d allow), and well it’ll grow. I’m impressed that you’re actually coding the thing. I know a wee (infinitesimal) amount about coding and geez. O_o I couldn’t do it, so my hat is off! After a while, crocodile!

    1. Aw, thanks, Melanie. You are one of the few people here on WordPress who have been with me from the very start. Most everyone else is from elsewhere. Of course, I do not make it easy to follow me, so, thanks for sticking with me.
